New Look 6808 in Paisley

I think this top qualifies as a stash bust, both for the fabric and the pattern.  The fabric I purchased in India at least 2.5 years ago, probably longer.  It is 100% cotton with paisley block print.  I decided that I should use the fabric before I don't like it anymore.   Such a bold print needed a simple pattern to show it off.  Cue pattern stash: New Look 6808 you're up!   It was a PR Best Pattern of 2012 and there are 65 reviews (and counting) on Pattern Review.

New Look 6808

I made view A with the long sleeves:

Front view

I cut a 16 for the front and did a 3/4" FBA.  I cut the back in a 14.  The sleeve I cut in a 16 and made it about 3/4" wider at the bicep.  I lowered the neckline about 1" and redrafted the facings to match.

I am short waisted so I raised the waist darts and shortened them.

I did install the side lapped zipper.  It has been a while since I put one in, and it showed.  It was not the neatest job and I have avoided creating any photographic evidence.  Once I finished the top, I realized that I could actually get it on without unzipping it!  I guess I could omit the zipper entirely next time.

Back view

The skirt I am wearing is a McCalls 3830 pencil skirt, made from red twill left over from my Jalie 2908 shorts.

I really like this top.  One thing I have realized this week is that I have been doing my sleeve widening adjustment incorrectly, and that I need more height in my sleeve caps.  Unfortunately I have another woven top with incorrectly adjusted sleeves already completed.  I will spend a little time re-fixing this on my traced patterns and hopefully in the future I'll improve the fit of my sleeves.

  1. It's really cute! I'm not usually a paisley-person, but I really like this print. It looks like blooming flowers from a distance!

    1. Thanks Carrie. It is a pretty bold pattern and I thought I needed to make something with it while I still liked it. :)
